Quality characteristics of extracted oil from the head and gills of Catfish and Titus fish

Abstract Background The research was carried out to assess the lipid characteristics of oil extracted from head and gills Claris macrocephalus Scomber scombrus. Results results confirmed presence C16:0, C18:0, C18:1, C18:2, C18:3, C22:6 as major fatty acids. Titus fish (TFHD) had a total saturated acid (TSFA) 40.804 ± 0.002% which C16:0 C18:0 were most dominant acids present while monounsaturated (TMUFA) in 33.853 0.001%. polyunsaturated (TPUFA) content TFHD sample found be 25.368 0.002%. revealed that unsaturated (TUFA) higher than TSFA. obtained for (TFGL) followed same trend observed sample. showed four (4) samples contain high level palmitic (C16:0) stearic (C18:0) both are (SFA). main MUFA identified C18:1 (cis-6) ranged 14.120 0.004 20.418 TFHD, TFGL, CFHD, CFGL oleic (C18:1) 10.297 0.001 11.570 0.003% CFHD CFGL. Conclusions Oils peroxide values indicating suitability human consumption.
